It was a mixed bag Wednesday night for Sandusky in a tri-meet with rival Fremont Ross and Clyde at Sandusky High School.
The Streaks rolled to a 55-18 victory against Ross, but lost by a similar score to Clyde, 49-16.
“They went out and wrestled hard,” Sandusky coach Conor Whelan said. “Obviously we would have preferred to go 2-0, but they went at it hard.”
In the win over Ross, Davion Caston scored a 15-4 victory against Steven Johnson at 130 — up two weight classes from his normal 119 — while Justin Ritchie scored a pin in 1:14 over Matt Christenson at 135 and Justin Palma scored a 10-4 win at 140.
Devon Aaron got a pin in 1:39 at 145 while Phil Henderson (171) and Tony Cook (215) also picked up pinfall victories in 3:20 and 1:11, respectively.
“Davion Caston has continued to wrestle well,” Whelan said. “Last week he looked great, but today we bumped him up to 130 for one of his matches and he got a major there. He went out and continued to really look good.”
In the loss to Clyde, Gerald Robinson (103) scored a 6-4 win for the Streaks while Caston posted a 9-1 victory against Zach Ross at 125. Justin Palma won a tight 10-9 match at 140 over Eric Pumphrey while Phil Henderson picked up another pin at 171, taking down Josh Trick in 1:22.
“Justin and Phill are a couple of juniors who have been in and out of action, but both wrestled well today,” Whelan said. “Gerald at 103, he didn’t go with us to Medina, but he looked good today as well.”
Clyde went on to beat Ross, 45-15, to finish 2-0 for the night.
Sandusky returns to action Wednesday in a home dual match with Lorain Southview.
