The St. Paul Lady Flyers picked up a quality win Tuesday night at the convocation center, topping the Mansfield St. Peter Lady Spartans 68-50 in non-conference action.
The Lady Flyers broke out to a 15-6 lead after one quarter and cruised from there.
St. Paul upped it season mark to 8-6.
The Flyers were led in scoring by Audrey Badovick, who tossed in 17 points. Taylor Brown added 15 points and Megan Stein and Kaylee Bundschuh each scored nine.
St. Paul was on top 28-17 at the half and 42-32 after three quarters. The Lady Flyers held a 26-18 scoring edge in the final period to secure the win.
St. Paul coach Jeremy Bliss was happy with the victory.
“We got out to a lead in the first quarter and were able to maintain it,” Bliss said. “We pushed the ball and played an up-tempo game.
“With our running game, sometimes we have silly turnovers, but that goes both ways,” he added. “These were two aggressive teams going at it.”
St. Peter’s McKenzie O’Brien, a freshman, led her squad with 17 points.
“We did a nice job on their point guard (O’Brien) and frustrated her a little bit in the first half,” Bliss said. “Our girls did a nice job executing.”
Bliss said Badovick played well at the point.
“And Taylor Brown did a nice job defensively and hit some big shots for us,” he said. “Kaylee also did a nice job on defense and hit some big shots.
“Megan Stein hit a big shot for us with two seconds left in the first half giving us some momentum going in,” Bliss added. “Hillary Fritz did a great job on the boards and Allison Spence played an all-around good game.”
The Lady Flyers don’t have much time to celebrate as they head to Plymouth on Thursday for a big Firelands Conference game. Plymouth defeated the Lady Flyers 73-67 on Jan. 19 in Norwalk.
“That will be a tough battle,” Bliss said. “It will have an up-tempo pace.”
St. Paul has been hot and cold this season.
“I told our girls you don’t realize how good you can be,” Bliss said. “The confidence thing is big for us. Tonight, we had a great finish. I think we are just as good as anyone in our district.”
The Lady Flyer jayvee team won 34-20. Erin Kramer scored eight points for the hosts.
