BOWLING GREEN — Sandusky's Taylor Vargo won the 200 freestyle at the Division I District Swimming Championships Saturday in Bowling Green, advancing to this week's state meet in Canton.
Vargo finished with a time of 1:55.24, more than one second ahead of the second-place finisher.
Vargo also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.37.
She will find out today if she qualified for the state meet in that event. Other Sandusky swimmers in various events.
The top finisher automatically qualified for the OHSAA State Swimming Championships Friday and Saturday.
The remaining spots are filled out this afternoon with the top times from the four district meets.
The highest finisher for the boys was Gus Everson, who finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.27 and was third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.82.
The Sandusky girls 400 freestyle relay team of Mary Murray, Holly Lippus, Britana Cremean of Vargo was second in 3:42.39 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Lippus, Cremean, Ashley Ahlers and Vargo finished fourth (1:42.07).
Eve London finished seventh in the diving competition and Lippus was eighth in the 50 freestyle (25.49).
For the boys, Jack Stauffer finished seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.63.
The Sandusky boys 200 freestyle relay team of Eric Bondarenko, Zach Waddington, Stauffer and Everson and the 400 freestyle relay team of Bondarenko, Waddington, Jeremy White and Everson both finished fifth, with respective times of 1:31.00 and 3:21.64. The 200 medley relay team of Stauffer, Brock Cremean, White and Nolan Murray finished seventh with a time of 1:47.81.
