COLUMBUS — We're in Columbus for the OHSAA state wrestling tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Will Logan Stieber win his fourth? Can Hunter Stieber, Chris Phillips, and Cam Tessari win their third each in three years?

Okay, there are more difficult questions than that.

We have two young wrestlers from St. Mary CC, a handful of talent from Oak Harbor and two interesting wrestlers from Sandusky. Will Monroeville's Cal Clark and Brent Wilken add to the Eagles' state title push?

Tournament-wide, there are some other interesting storylines. The first girl to make the state tournament, Paige Nemec, steps onto the mat in the Division II 103.

DIVISION III Monroeville's delegation went 5 of 6 on the day. Not bad. After the first championship session, Monroeville leads the field in team points with 17. Bedford St. Peter Chanel is second with 15.5 points. Bedford St. Peter Chanel is down a wrestler – Someone who qualified for the state tournament is not wrestling for some reason. That could be huge in the team point standings. Monroeville's Chris Phillips tech'ed Glouster Trimble's Coltan Joyce, 20-5. Eagles head coach Scott Bauer noted that Phillips asked, "Why learn the moves if I'm not going to use them." He uses his superior footwork to out-maneuver his opponents, and does not seem to care if he gives up a few points. Cal Clark joined the four reigning champs with a 11-5 decision. He was at a 5-2 disadvantage before scoring nine unanswered points. Norwalk's Mitchell Gross scored a takedown in the final seconds of the third period for a 3-3 tie against West Jefferson's Jake Cochrane. Gross scored another takedown about 40 seconds into the overtime to survive the first championship round. SMCC's Joe Dauch scored a 9-3 decision over Luke Wojcicki of Tuscarawas. Huron sophomore Nino Majoy took an 8-5 decision Baltimore Liberty Union's Damien McAfee. Area wrestlers were 7-8 in the first round, 2-7 without counting Monroeville. DIVISION II Crestwood's Paige Nemec, the fourth seed from the Northeast, lost to Olentangy's Trevor Fiorucci. Oak Harbor's wrestlers are 3-2 so far. Drew Stone (125) and Ian Miller (145) scored convincing wins for the Rockets. Stone earned a late pin, 5:38, of Athens' John Lazear. Miller pinned Licking Valley's Jordan Harble in 3:22. Konner Witt took an 8-5 decision from Minerva's Scott Boyce. Championship Preliminaries
